Favourite TV Series
“One day at a time” is one my favorite TV
series in the last time. Its first season was released in January of 2017 and
the second in January of this year. The history revolves around Penelope “Lupita”
a nurse veteran of the army who has to deal with PTSD after went back to her
normal life. The story follows her, her child’s –Alex and Elena- and her mother
–Lydia an American-Cuban family trying to struggle against all the problems and
issues that immigrants must deal with in their new countries as discrimination and
prejudices for being Latinos.
This is not a sad or dramatic series, but
instead a comedy one which has all the elements to make a good drama, that’s
it. What I like the most is the mixed of cultural traits this show displays,
but also I like how it tried to put sensitive themes like sexuality –coming out-
and working it with respect and deepness besides the main genre “comedy” it
has. Also being the main protagonist a Latino family it makes so much more
relatable the problems and the situations which characters have to go thought.
The little details are very important and it has it. The devotion for God, the
importance of a united family and the lack of a father figure for Lupita child’s
are somehow characteristics that we see more or less as Latinos, but we know
that exits strongly in ours countries and its part of a long history since colonization.
One of the most heartbroken moments is when
Victor, the father of Alex and Elena comes back trying to made them a
complete family again by the time Elena’s
quince was being planned but he ended rejecting her for having a different
sexuality and he just leaves the party without telling anyone L which affect all the members of the family.
Well, besides the sad scenes I can say this
is a really enjoyable show. I don’t know it will have a third season yet, but
if it really have one for surely I will be ready.
